In which a Monkey Hat gets finished

Finally...........

While my Mum was here over at Christmas, she started to knit a Monkey Hat.  Originally I wanted to make these to sell but this project proved a long and arduous task so back to the drawing board.

After I sewed it all together and tried it on Huffle's BIG head I realised it needed a mouth.....

once the mouth was sewn on, I realised it needed an I-Cord (thank goodness for YouTube) to finish it off......

I-cords and ties done, ends sewn in, I tried it on Smallest's head (whom it was intended for)....

I think they both look very cute.

This won't be something I will be making too many of as it seemed very fiddly and very time consuming.  I am now trying to create a new crochet pattern instead - possibly a little less trickier and a bit quicker.

For now, however, Smallest has a new Monkey Hat.  Thanks Moo for your help x

Woyww #243 - a pile of unfinisheds

Hello Wednesdayer's. I am very cold sitting up here in the loft so I won't be staying - just long enough to finish at least one of the many things I have on my desk this week.

Front left is my cardigan that I have just finished sewing up, then realised it was wonky and I have to undo the collar and I don't like it on me as it makes me look like a balloon in a vey think cardi (ie not very flattering). Front is Small's Cub uniform with a half sewn badge on, I must have been interrupted. Blinded by the light is a napkin I am going to attempt to embroider a tea cup onto (just because I haven't done it before and I want to). Middle back is the Sock Monkey hat Moo was knitting. Well she has gone back to the UK now and left me to sew it up. Nearly done. Next to that is a Zentangle I am working on in between the sewing and knitting jobs. I come up to do one thing and then I start doodling and before I know it, time is flying by. Left top are the finished thrum socks which I am very happy with. Just need to do a three needle bind off which means I need to ckeck YouTube to see how to do it. I think that is everything.

Off for a cup of tea and a blog hop - nothing better x

The Great British Ginger Biscuit

Last night I watched The Great British Bake Off (Sport Relief). Jane Horrocks made some Ginger Biscuits and Paul Hollywood said they were the same recipe that his Mum made. I instantly googled it and found his Mum's recipe.

Of course, this morning I made them and they were just yummy.

110g butter

110g sugar

110g golden syrup

225g flour (should be self-raising but I used All Purposes and added 1tsp baking powder)

2 tsp ground ginger

Preheat oven to 350*F and grease baking sheets.

Melt butter, sugar and syrup in a saucepan gently.

Remove form heat and add the dry ingredients to make a dough.

Make into balls (50p sized - mine were bigger) should make 40 (I made 20)

Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

Woyww #241 - a roving we go

Hello What's on your Workdesk Wednesdayers, hope this post finds you all well, safe, warm (not too warm) and dry.

I haven't been at my desk this week as I have been knitting my sock on my lap mainly whilst watching TV.

So my desk isn't much different from last week apart from the finished sock no1 from last week and sock no2 is well on its way.

My lovely Cath Kidston knitting bag full of gorgeous Angora Bunny wool. Not sure what I am going to do with it yet. Finished sock poking out of the top trying to escape before I stick my stinky foot in it ha! My Zentangle pen, there is a zentangle but it is hiding under my sock. Not sure what that black hooky thing is.

I think the rovings are supposed to be a bit tighter so I probably need to pull them through a little more but they are very cosy and I already have a request from Smallest to make a pair for him in Green and Orange!

Have a lovely week and just to make you hungry a photo of the bread Moo and I made today to go with our Leek and Potato soup.

It is a wholewheat many seeded bread. Yum yum.

Woyww 240 - Who?

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2014

It's Wednesday (somewhere in the World anyway) and time to play along with What's on your Workdesk Wednesday. I have been away for a few weeks. A small break to Montreal, Christmas, New Year, kids off, Huffle off, Mum here from England..... Enough excuses?

So my desk today was a mess as it has not been touched since I wrapped my Christmas presents.

Just rubble which I have now tidied away (does it count as tidying if you put it all in one basket to put away another day?). ........and now it looks like this....

On the left is a hat my Mum (Moo) is knitting. It is a sock monkey hat and it was intended for Smallest but also as a test to see if it is worth making to sell. It won't fit Smallest but I'm sure it will fit one the tinies I know. Next to that are a couple of bags of gorgeous big beads which Moo bought for me to 'tinker' with. A pile of Mollie Makes magazines which Moo brought with her from England. On the right is my new sock. It is a Thrum sock, based on the 'Newfie' mittens of Newfoundland, Canada. Every third stitch on every third row I add a piece of 'Roving'.

My knitting lady says the colours remind her of DrSeuss Horton hears a Hoo

It makes a lovely fleece lining which the more you wear the more it felts down into an almost impenetrable layer.

Believe me, we need them at the moment. We are currently experiencing -35* windchill, have had two Ice Storms, one of which took out our power and water for 50 hours but luckily came back on Christmas Eve and several Frost Quakes since. The weather seems to be crazy everywhere at the moment so I hope everyone stays safe, dry and warm.

Anyway, I am now off to see what everyone else is up to.
