Woyww 240 - Who?

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2014

It's Wednesday (somewhere in the World anyway) and time to play along with What's on your Workdesk Wednesday. I have been away for a few weeks. A small break to Montreal, Christmas, New Year, kids off, Huffle off, Mum here from England..... Enough excuses?

So my desk today was a mess as it has not been touched since I wrapped my Christmas presents.

Just rubble which I have now tidied away (does it count as tidying if you put it all in one basket to put away another day?). ........and now it looks like this....

On the left is a hat my Mum (Moo) is knitting. It is a sock monkey hat and it was intended for Smallest but also as a test to see if it is worth making to sell. It won't fit Smallest but I'm sure it will fit one the tinies I know. Next to that are a couple of bags of gorgeous big beads which Moo bought for me to 'tinker' with. A pile of Mollie Makes magazines which Moo brought with her from England. On the right is my new sock. It is a Thrum sock, based on the 'Newfie' mittens of Newfoundland, Canada. Every third stitch on every third row I add a piece of 'Roving'.

My knitting lady says the colours remind her of DrSeuss Horton hears a Hoo

It makes a lovely fleece lining which the more you wear the more it felts down into an almost impenetrable layer.

Believe me, we need them at the moment. We are currently experiencing -35* windchill, have had two Ice Storms, one of which took out our power and water for 50 hours but luckily came back on Christmas Eve and several Frost Quakes since. The weather seems to be crazy everywhere at the moment so I hope everyone stays safe, dry and warm.

Anyway, I am now off to see what everyone else is up to.

P.s. I had a great response to all the Christmas makes I made.

Aha! You're back! Yeah it's a bit nippy to say the least isn't it? At least we're getting a proper winter this time round, we've had mild ones since you got here!! Those are going to be the warmest socks I've ever seen! Pity they're not finished, I'm sure you could do with wearing them right now.

Hugs

Hi Famfa
now you know putting everything into a box and moving it somewhere else to put away later is not really classed as having a tidy up!
I am really taken with your socks they look like they would be the warmest and most comfortable things to wear
Have a great WOYWW today and enjoy the rest of your week

I have been thinking of you and Brenda and all the other Canada/US deskers. What atrocious weather...I can't even begin to comprehend -35! It's ahas been terribly stormy in the UK but Wiltshire seems to have missed the worst of it. I thought of you before Christmas as the two little Corknisse and tress you made me sat on the piano again!!
Love the idea of a felted inside sock, it looks pretty too. Hope it keeps your tootsies toasty!

Goodness, and I thought I was a bit chilly sitting in my craft room! Yes, I do think putting everything in a basket counts as tidying up - my papers that need sorting and filing were in danger of sliding off of the printer (there so I would SEE them and maybe get on with the job). Solution: put in enormous shopping bag and stick under chair. Love the green and blue socks and the lining looks awesome. Keep cosy, Happy WOYWW Cindy #46

The weather is crazy over here too, not crazy cold, crazy hot! At least it has started raining so it might cool off a little. Love those socks, the colours are amazing.
Happy WOYWW!

You make me feel that I should be glad it is this cold in the UK, positively warm! I have no idea what roving is, I can see it, but it looks a little like fleece and very warm and something I might "need".

I love your style of tidying, I follow it myself, then end up with loads of baskets and pots full of stuff waiting to be put away, in fact if you visit back you can see one such on the floor full of unmounted rubber stamps waiting to be catalogued and filed!
