WOYWW #168 - an earless monkey and half a babooshka

Wednesday again? Really? I have been very lax in posting things to this blog. Only posting on a Wednesday for the wonderful What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday as hosted by Julia. Kitchen tables, ironing boards, proper craft tables, amazingly organised spaces (not at all jealous!) can all be found here.

In the meantime, here is my old kitchen table (now redundant) up in half of the loft, better known as the Craft Room.

In the process of STILL being made is the pink monkey. He now has arms and is just waiting for his ears so I am hoping you won't see him on my desk next week, or at least if he is, he will be finished. This has been a nightmare of a crochet. One leg fatter than the other, arms possibly just that little bit too long and one a bit lumpy, face probably a bit too small for his head. However, he is going to my niece and I'm sure she will love him anyway. I am following Annaboo's House CAL.

Colour is a bit strange!

Also half done is a Russian Doll Key Ring from the Mollie Makes magazine. I'm not a sewer (always find this word hard to look at - sewer, full of rats and a bit stinky!) and this is really fiddly, all the pieces are tiny and I have fat sausage fingers not adept at tiny stitches. Still, hoping it will be finished and I will have nothing on my desk next week or something completely new. Again I blame those kids of mine, they always find me!

Goes beautifully with my tablecloth
There are a load of new stones and rocks there too. Another trip to the beach bought a bucket full home. Of course, I love them all. "Mummy I know you will love this one". "look Mummy, a heart shape - your favourite". "see how it sparkles Mummy, don't you just love it?"

Skunky the sock monkey is back there too, waiting to have his arm mended. It looks like his muscle is bulging out. I wish I could say he was falling apart due to too much cuddling but in reality it is because he is roughly boy-handled!

LLJ's lovely bunting is hanging above my desk, and the tiny desk bunting is from faded reverie. Such talented people.

Well I have taken up enough of your time. Julia tells us to keep it short but I can't help it. I'm off to check everyone else's now.

You know you'll be at a loss when those boys go back to school in a couple of weeks! Love the rocks, it's such a lovely thing to do to go beach combing. I can't crochet or sew so you've got me beat on two counts, at least you're having a go, I won't even try!

I love that spotty tablecloth! Just such a happy place to work on. The monkey is seriously cute and so is the Russian doll. My grandson came home from school today with a huge bag filled with material to make costumes for his school concert. I hate when they say "my granny will', even before they know what it is I have to do. Suppose its a compliment that they have so much faith in me, but I HATE seing!!!! So wish me luck with this lot. LOL

Yours is one of the busiest desks I've stopped by today. I just love your polka dotted table covering - can't beat polka-dots in my mind.

Had a chuckle of recognition over the word 'sewer' - it does have some nasty connotations :))

LOL - I have fat finger syndrome too...so I definitely shy away from all things fiddly. I know there'll be tears before bedtime if I even attempt anything smaller than 15cms across!!
And I totally get the stones - I love them too and have a huge collection in the garden that my boys (now 19 and 16) have picked up from various places over the years :) The heart one is lovely!

I am glad it's not just me that collects interesting stones - I have some fab ones in the garden. Also spent hours painting them, with my DD when she was tiny, as little minibeasts, What fun! x Jo

You can never have enough rocks and a heart rock is essential. Love how monkey is coming along.

aw poor monkey, no ears and a lump in his leg, it couldn't get much worse. I love rocks, bought one back from Calbust (Scotland) with me. I think, on the beach, in the middle of no where, it's just a rock...but when it's in my living room, it's special, and holds loads of memories! Have a great week, thanks for my snoop! Happy WOYWW

What awesome sock monkeys!! Don't be so hard on yourself...even if a leg is a little big or an arm is too long, this is SO MUCH BETTER than I could ever do! I would probably take a skein of yarn, tangle it up, draw a face on it with a Sharpie marker, and call it a monkey! Maybe that's because I don't know how to knit or crochet, but still...you're very talented!! can't wait to see the finished baby!

Who wouldn't love a sparkly rock shaped like a heart and found by one of life's loves! my mum still has a basket filled with stones...she had the foresight to write which beach, which child and the date on some of the real 'keepers' and they are great prompts for the 'remember when' type stories!
