WOYWW #189 - how many needles does it take to make a glove?

Hello woyww'ers. Never heard of it? Where have you been? Try this then.

So here is my desk. It is a temporary desk as it is cold and dark up in the loft today and I wanted to knit in front of the TV. Today I am using our Games/Homework/extra craft table, and on it is.......

Arm Warmers! I decided to have a go at making the lovely owl arm warmers from Mollie Makes. My Mum is over visiting from England and she buys Mollie Makes and saves them up for me so I get a big pile every visit. I am so lucky. I love these arm warmers/gloves and because it uses cable (have never done any cable) I thought I would take advantage of Mum being here to help me.

So three needles, knitting in the round - no problem, fourth needle to actually knit and then another needle to put the cable stitches on - oh my goodness - now it's confusing. I thought this would be easy after knitting the sock for the last three months.

I will persevere and let you see how I get on.

P.s. the sock is still growing. On the foot part, another few inches and I'll be at the toe. Then I guess I have to start the other foot.

I too save Molly Makes and take them over to my DD when I go to see her in Germany! They are such a good read and, whilst most things in them are for beginners, there are always a couple of projects worth tackling... you've found one of those!! It gave me a chuckle how you are juggling those needles! Good luck...

Ooh missus, you're ahead of me! I plan on a simple cable project this year and possibly a simple lace one too! I'm about to start more socks and I've decided to make a patterned pair with plain wool, just knit and purl stitches, but I'm really going to have to concentrate now! I'm currently making Andrew a hat and it's on 4 needles with a 5th one to knit with and you wouldn't believe the trouble I'm having! It's only one extra needle but it changes everything! I want to make some wrist warmers or fingerless gloves for work as I sit by the window and when it's cold my hands freeze!

Hugs

Not done any cave knitting for ages but I did like doing it. Not ure if I would like cable and knitting in the round though seems a challenge too far. Good luck with the socks, I'm still trying to finish the second to partner the one I finished in November.

Hi Famfa! thanks for your message and I do hope you can make a quilt. They needn't be complex or big.... just a comforter. I'll post the details soon so take a look and have a think, it's up to you then but the thought is really appreciated.

You are very clever, I don't think I could ever manage to knit gloves,, or socks or a hat come to that, I wish I could tho.

I'm liking the sound of arm-warmers and these look as if they're going to be lovely! Three needles looks very confusing indeed!

LLJ made me some wrist warmers and believe me, they are so so useful! Stick with it, but also dont be put off when i say as a non knitter how scarey knitting on more than 2 needles must be!!

I have never heard of Mollie Makes. I have always shied away from anything with four needles. Two needles and a cable needle are my limit. I have got the wherewithal to knit an Aran jumper for DH again. Hope you have a good week and get those warmers finished. xx Maggie #37

So cute!!! Love the arm warmers. I am not that patient or coordinated to use that many needles at once. I think I would lose an eye.

Sorry I am 2 days late getting to your blog. I have been battling a nasty flu bug.
