What's on your Workdesk Wednesday #147

An odd one this week.

Newspaper, glue (flour and water), balloon - a mess!!!,

Put it all together and this is what you get.

I am making a piñata for Smallest's birthday at the weekend. I know I could buy one (and I may still do that if this doesn't work out), but one child poorly at home and the other here every other day, I thought I would try. I even thought it might be fun for the kids to help, but they are not too interested at the moment. Maybe when we start painting it and making it look like something. It is going to be the Cookie Monster (but Smallest keeps changing his mind so who knows what it will become!)

There will also be lots of baking in the next few days. He has requested an Elmo Birthday cake and Sweetie and Cookie Monster Cup Cakes.

Have a look to see what is going on with other desks here.

I've never seen a homemade pinata before! Are the goodies already inside the balloon then? Hope Small feels better and you get everything ready for the little party for Smallest! You're number 28 btw.

Goodies will be put in through a hole in top once all layers are dry. Hole will be sealed. Then painted and add lots of crepe paper.

I made one of those once. I got a few big balloons, then after the paper mache was dry, I added ribbons of tissue paper. I wish I had used streamers instead because they are more even. Love what you did. Happy WOYWW from #3

It's the first time I have seen someone make a pinata (I'd pop along to Michaels and pick one up) but it looks pretty good so far... filling it should be fun and you know the kids are going to enjoy smashing it to bits! Annette ~22

Yay for papier mache. Even if it doesn't work out, you'll all have had fun making it! I loved the early birthdays of my boys, it's different now they're nearly 19 and 16.... Though, the eldest has just requested a Mine Craft (computer game) cake, so that gives me something to get my teeth into!!

We always made our own pinatas, and just as you are doing! Actually, I got them started, and the kids made their own--they loved it!

Fad idea for a pinata. We used to make animals using a baloon base - perfect for piggies, elephants etc. have a good week and fun birthday party for your little one.

This brought back memories! We never had enough money when I was growing up to buy the store bought pinatas, so we always made our own! They were fun and inexpensive to prepare. We loved painting them after. Enjoy and thanks for the memories!

You just never know what you're going to come across next hopping across everyone's workspace.
The Pinata's a brilliant idea. I think the little one's may become interested when they realise there's goodies involved!
Have fun ~ Neesie #30

Now this looks like my kind of utterly messy crafting, love it. Takes me back to primary school. Always coming home with glitter and glue stuck all over. Fabulous, thanks for sharing x
